Universal Music Group has been ordered to release R. Kelly’s royalties to the courts for distribution to his victims.

According to court documents, the United States Court in the Northern District of Illinois issued a third-party citation in May to discover assets on UMG. The record label had a deadline of June 21st to respond to the interrogatories. The label were instructed to disclose the amount of outstanding songwriter royalties owed to the disgraced R&B singer.

On Friday, UMG was directed to surrender $567,444.19 in unpaid royalties to the courts. This amount was discovered to be owed to the singer and will be utilized to compensate his victims. Additionally, it’s worth noting that the victims had previously received roughly $27,000 from the singer.

Last month, prosecutors filed a writ of continuing garnishment in Brooklyn. The legal document is typically utilized by creditors to collect money owed in a judgment from debtors.

“The outstanding balance on the aforesaid judgment is $504,289.73, including interest, as of June 1, 2023. Interest is continuing to accrue,” the documents read.
