Gunman On A Scooter Kills One and Injures Three In NYC Shooting Spree [Video]

One person was killed and three others injured by a man riding a scooter across multiple New York City boroughs Saturday.

The New York Police Department said the suspected gunman traveled to five different locations throughout Queens and Brooklyn within half an hour. The attacks began at 11:10 a.m. when a 21-year-old male was shot in Brooklyn. He is expected to survive.

The second victim, an 86-year-old man, was shot once in the back just 17 minutes later. He was transported to Jamaica Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. 

“The perpetrator was described as a male on a scooter firing at a nail salon on Jamaica Avenue,” Assistant Chief Joseph Kenny said during a news conference. In a separate incident in the area, the gunman fired into a group of people, but no one was hit.

The third victim, a 44-year-old man, was struck in the face while standing on a street corner. He was transported to an area hospital and listed in critical condition. 

Nearby, the fourth victim, a 63-year-old man, was shot in the shoulder. He was taken to a hospital and is stable.

Police have not released any of the victim’s identities. 

Less than two hours after the first incident occurred, a 25-year-old suspect was apprehended. The 9mm pistol used in the shootings and the scooter were recovered. According to officials, he has one prior arrest in NYC. They did not specify what the suspect’s previous arrest was for.

The scooter he was driving was illegal and did not have any plates, Acting Police Commissioner Edward Caban said at the news conference. 

NBC News reports that the suspect, who has not been identified, has not been cooperative with police. They believe he is suffering from mental or emotional issues, but it’s unknown if he’s been evaluated by a mental health professional.

The investigation into the shooting spree remains ongoing.
