Larry Nassar, the ex-USA Gymnastics team doctor, reportedly stabbed after allegedly making a comment while watching the women’s Wimbledon tennis tournament with other inmates.
According to sources, Nassar was watching the women’s Wimbledon tennis tournament on Sunday with other inmates. During the match, Nassar allegedly said “I wish there were girls playing.” Following his comment, sources indicate that a fellow inmate reportedly went to Nassar’s cell later in the day and proceeded to stab him with a makeshift weapon, inflicting at least six wounds.
After the stabbing incident, multiple inmates rushed into Nassar’s cell and intervened, removing the suspect from the former doctor. Two sources familiar with the matter have stated that Nassar’s condition is listed as stable.
Nevertheless, the Bureau of Prisons confirmed that an inmate was assaulted at the United States Penitentiary Coleman II in Florida, a high-security federal facility, on Sunday. They further clarified that no other individuals were harmed in the incident. Currently, the suspect involved in the stabbing incident has not been officially charged by investigators.
Nassar has been behind bars since 2016. The former gymnastics doctor was convicted of both state and federal charges for sexually assaulting U.S. gymnastics team members. The cumulative length of his sentences amounts to several hundred years.
