A 32-year-old Chicago man died when he sliced open his arm while punching the front window of a bar he was being tossed out of this week, authorities said.
Jonathan Banks was pronounced dead early Monday morning at the Vista Medical Center East.
Authorities say Banks injured himself at a bar on the 37800 block of North Sheridan Road in Beach Park after he got into a verbal altercation with another patron. He was escorted out of the bar by security, Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said.
The man then allegedly punched out the window near the bar’s front door, resulting in severe arm lacerations, Covelli added. Police responded to the scene around 2 a.m.
An autopsy performed later on Monday revealed that Banks died of sharp force injuries, Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek said.
