Carlee Russell’s ex-boyfriend took to Instagram on Monday to say that he was “blindsided” and “disgusted” by the 25-year-old’s kidnapping hoax after her lawyer released a statement saying that the nursing student was lying about the entire incident.
“Carlee’s actions created hurt, confusion, and dishonesty,” Thomar Latrell Simmons wrote. “I was made aware of the false narrative after coming to the defense of my ex Carlee Russell.”
He said he and his “family’s nature was to react in love and genuine concern,” adding that they are “disgusted from the outcome of this entire situation” and that he was “blindsided with Carlee’s actions.”
Simmons stated that despite the ongoing investigation into the elaborate hoax, his family has achieved a sense of “closure” since Russell admitted to her actions and apologized.
“Thank you to all my family, friends, and the nation for support through this,” he wrote. “The severity in this matter has not been overlooked, and I deeply respect the genuine support shared during this situation.”
Russell’s attorney, Emory Anthony, stated through Chief Nicholas Derzis that there was no kidnapping, and his client didn’t see a baby.
“My client did not leave the Hoover area. My client apologizes for her actions to this community … Carlee asks for your forgiveness and prayers,” Anthony wrote.
Earlier this month, the news reported that Russell disappeared under puzzling circumstances shortly after making a 911 call to report seeing a toddler dressed in a T-shirt and diaper walking barefoot along the busy Interstate 459. Two days later, she reappeared at her home unharmed.
