Benzino and Coi Leray’s relationship may be hot and cold, but the retired rapper appears extremely triggered by his daughter’s deadbeat claims.
The former Love & Hip-Hop star recently appeared on the popular We In Miami podcast, where he praised his daughter, who has found her own, success. However, Benzino got choked up over Leray’s past comments about him not always being there for her.
“I’ve been called all kinds of s**t, but a deadbeat dad? C’mon, man, I love my daughter. I don’t wanna be that. Like, I don’t wanna be known as that. I don’t care what people think, but that hurt me. That’s my daughter. I raised her. When people say I hated on Coi’s career, and I’m jealous and all this. That s**t is like, damn, it’s evil,” he told host Slim Stunta.
Leray has been vocal about her strained relationship with her dad. Last April, she accused Benzino of threatening her and her mother. This allegedly happened after she revealed that the family went broke once The Source went under. Her comments led Benzino to fire back on social media, claiming Leray and many younger artists didn’t respect hip-hop veterans. Despite the past drama, things seem to be improving, with Benzino going to support his daughter for the first time at Rolling Loud Miami just days ago.
“I love her. Seeing her like that. You can say I’m biased, but honestly, like, I don’t see nobody else doing that. She’s amazing, man,” he told Stunt regarding Leray’s festival performance.
