Donald Trump pleaded not guilty Thursday to four federal charges that he attempted to overturn the 2020 election.
Trump, the leading candidate for the GOP in the 2024 election, faces charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights.
In a 45-page indictment on Tuesday, Special Counsel Jack Smith accused the 77-year-old and his associates of promoting baseless claims of election rigging, exerting pressure on state and federal officials to manipulate the election results, and orchestrating fraudulent elector slates in an attempt to obtain electoral votes from Biden.
This is the third time Trump has been indicted. Earlier this year, he was charged in New York for attempting to conceal hush money payments. Additionally, another case brought by Smith was based on the mishandling and retention of classified records at Mar-a-Lago.
