On Monday, a Texas court judge authorized the arrest of the cousin of the Uvalde school shooter on claims that he threatened to carry out a school shooting of his own.
According to the affidavits, San Antonio Police responded to a mother’s mental health call about her teen son on Monday. She reported that he threatened to mimic his cousin’s school shooting incident from 2022. The statements were made to the suspect’s sister, and the mother was worried since her son is on probation and was allegedly intoxicated at that time.
In a police statement, the suspect’s 17-year-old sister said he threatened to shoot her in the head and mentioned the school shooting while they were in the car. She also noted that he said, “School is starting soon.”
Police say that the suspect lived across the street from the elementary school.
At the police station, the mother stated that she overheard her son talking about acquiring an AR-15 through an illegal private sale.
According to a Bexar County magistrate record, the 17-year-old was arrested for allegedly making terroristic threats, including a felony charge for threatening the public and a misdemeanor for threatening a family member.
The suspect is the cousin of the 18-year-old who perpetrated the deadly shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, on May 24, 2022.
