The microphone Cardi B threw at a disruptive fan in Las Vegas last month has increased in value.
On Tuesday, the microphone was listed for auction on eBay. The initial seller of the mic is Scott Fisher, the proprietor of The Wave Inc, an audio production firm in Las Vegas. This company had supplied sound equipment to Drai’s Beachclub on the day of the incident.
Last month, an event unfolded where a fan tossed a liquid at Cardi while she was performing on stage at a beach club in Las Vegas. In response, the rapper retaliated by hurling her microphone at the individual in the audience. Although the fan filed a police report regarding the incident, no charges were brought against Cardi.
Subsequently, Fisher managed to retrieve the microphone and decided to auction it, with the earnings being donated to two charitable organizations: Friendship Circle Las Vegas and the Wounded Warrior Project.
“It’s standard procedure to mark all microphones and in-ear systems as to whom they ‘go to’ prior to soundcheck to make sure the same person gets the correct items during the show,” Fisher told CBS News, adding, “You could see white tape on the Cardi B mic in all the videos, and that is how we knew which mic was hers.”
According to the listing, the microphone remains functional and will come with an authenticity certification letter from Fisher. Additionally, a custom display case, generously provided by a company that learned about the microphone’s sale, will be included for the buyer’s benefit. Currently, over 120 individuals have already placed bids on the item. Fisher expressed that although he anticipated some interest in the microphone, he never imagined that this “piece of hip-hop infamy” would reach $100,000.
