Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, the grandson of actor Robert De Niro, passed away due to a mixture of drugs.
More than a month later, medical examiners confirmed that the 19-year-old died after ingesting fentanyl, bromazolam, alprazolam, 7-amino clonazepam, ketamine, and cocaine.
On July 13th, law enforcement arrested Sofia Haley Marks on federal charges related to the sale of drugs to Rodriguez. Marks was accused of three instances of distributing narcotics, as stated in a federal complaint that didn’t explicitly mention the person affected.
According to detectives, Marks purportedly sold three fake oxycodone pills mixed with fentanyl, and two counterfeit Xanax pills, to Rodriguez on July 1st. Tragically, Rodriguez was discovered deceased in his Manhattan residence on July 2nd.
Rodriguez was the offspring of Drena De Niro, the eldest child of Robert De Niro and artist Carlos Mare. He had taken part in various endeavors, including Bradley Cooper’s 2018 reimagining of A Star is Born. Earlier, Drena had disclosed that her son’s passing was a result of ingesting pills infused with fentanyl.
“Someone sold him fentanyl-laced pills that they knew were laced yet still sold them to him,” she wrote on Instagram.
After Rodriguez’s death, Robert expressed being “deeply distressed by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo.”
“We’re greatly appreciative of the condolences from everyone,” he said. “We ask that we, please be given privacy to grieve our loss of Leo.”
