Usher has unveiled an unexpected link with Beyoncé that traces back to her early years as an emerging young star.
In a recent appearance on Capital Breakfast With Roman Kemp, the R&B icon shared that he had participated in a studio session that brought him into the presence of Beyoncé when she was younger. During this session, he found himself in the babysitter role, looking after the group she was apart of, The Dolls.
“Fun fact, I knew Beyoncé when she was 12 years old, 11 years old,” he said. “She used to be in a group by the name of The Dolls. I don’t know if I could consider myself their babysitter, but I had a time where I had to watch The Dolls.”
Usher added, “I was at Daryl Simmons’ house. He was working with them at the time, and I just happened to be over there and they were working on a session. I kind of found my way into being their like, I don’t know, chaperone, nanny, or something like that — the oldest person in the room.”
Ironically, Beyoncé hired Usher on to star in her 2003 “Naughty Girl” video. In 2008, they collaborated once again on “Love In This Club II,” a follow-up to Usher’s successful track featuring Jeezy, and this time they were joined by Lil Wayne.
