Ron Cephas Jones, the Emmy-winning actor known for playing William Hill on This Is Us, has died. He was 66.
A representative for the beloved actor confirmed his death to People.
“Beloved and award-winning actor Ron Cephas Jones has passed away at the age of 66 due to a long-standing pulmonary issue,” the statement read. “Throughout the course of his career, his warmth, beauty, generosity, kindness, and heart were felt by anyone who had the good fortune of knowing him.”
“He began his career at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, and his love for the stage was present throughout his entire career, including his recent Tony-nominated and Drama Desk Award-winning performance for his role in Clyde’s on Broadway.”
Jones played the role of Sterling K. Brown’s character Randall Pearson’s biological father, William Hill, on This Is Us. He brought home two Emmys for the part, winning Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series in 2018 and again in 2020.
He had most recently been working on Truth Be Told and had recurring roles in Law & Order: Organized Crime and Better Things. Jones’ other acting credits include Law & Order, The Get Down, Mr. Robot, Paid In Full, He Got Game, NYPD Blue, and many others.
He had previously spoken of his health issues, revealing in a 2021 interview with The New York Times that he battled chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and was a double lung transplant recipient.
