Nissan Recalls Over 236K Sentras Due To Steering Control Issue

Elkhart - Circa May 2022: Nissan Car, SUV and Pickup Truck dealership. Nissan manufactures the Sentra, Altima and Versa.

Nissan is recalling over 236,000 Sentra sedans due to an issue with the tie rod within the car’s suspension. A total of 236,238 Sentra vehicles spanning model years 2020 to 2022 have been included in the recall.

The tie rods play a pivotal role in steering functionality. A bent tie rod can influence the driver’s capacity to steer, potentially leading to an off-center steering wheel or vibrations. Conversely, a fractured tie rod could result in partial steering loss, heightening the collision risk.

According to the NHTSA, Nissan says that tie rods within the vehicles could possess inadequate strength during specific operational conditions. These tie rods may undergo deformation or distortion when experiencing high input forces.

Starting October 5th, Nissan plans to dispatch letters to inform owners of vehicles that the recall might impact. According to the records, notifications were forwarded to dealers on August 16. If owners encounter an off-center steering wheel or experience vibrations, they will be advised to contact their Nissan dealer. Should a bent tie rod be confirmed, dealerships will replace the left and right tie rods without any cost to the owners.

Upon the availability of the necessary components, Nissan intends to dispatch another letter. This communication will alert owners to bring their vehicles to an authorized dealership for the required repairs without any additional cost.
