The family of a 22-year-old Netflix engineer, Yohanes Kidane, is asking the public for assistance locating him.
On Monday, Kidane went missing after taking an Uber ride around 7:15 p.m. in San Jose, California.
According to NBC News, Yohanes’ siblings, Yosief Kidane, and Sara Kidane, began to worry when Yohanes’ phone location showed him at the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco all day Monday. However, the next day, his personal belongings were found in the same area.
“She’d been calling, trying to see what he’s doing. He never picked up,” Yosief told NBC. “She calls me, wakes me up before I start work, and we start calling his phone, calling friends, trying to see where he could be.”
On Tuesday, San Jose police informed the family that they couldn’t locate Yohanes at his apartment or workplace.
A spokesperson for Uber confirmed to NBC News that Yohanes took an Uber but said the ride “ended at the requested destination without any reported incidents.” The destination in question was the Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center.
Described as a 22-year-old Black male, Yohanes is approximately 150 pounds and stands at 5’8 inches. He was last seen in gray sweatpants, a black hoodie, and black shoes.
“The investigation has uncovered no evidence to suggest that a crime has occurred,” the San Jose police said. “San Jose Detectives have kept Mr. Kidane’s family advised of all pertinent developments in the case. The case will remain open until Mr. Kidane is located.”
Yosief said that his brother had started his software engineering job two weeks before his disappearance. In May, he graduated from Cornell University with a degree in computer science.
A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to assist the family with the costs of traveling to the Bay Area.
As of Tuesday, the family has received over $70k in donations to help assist with traveling expenses.
“We’re going to find him, and we’re going to bring him home,” Yosief told NBC. “We’re not going to stop. We know our friends and family and the community is not going to stop.”
