Santa Clara To Give Beyoncé The Key to the City, Name Her Honorary Mayor Ahead of Renaissance Show

On Tuesday, the Santa Clara City Council announced Beyoncé Knowles-Carter will be granted the key to the city and given the title of Honorary Mayor for ceremonial purposes only on August 30, 2023, the same day she will perform her Renaissance World Tour at the Levi’s Stadium.

Mayor Lisa Gillmor said, “In recognition of her artistry and humanitarianism, we are proud to present Beyoncé a key to our city, along with the title of honorary mayor. Beyoncé demonstrates an incredible dedication to economic equity and championing marginalized communities through her service to communities globally.”

Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour promises to be a momentous event, and Santa Clara looks forward to hosting her and her dedicated fan base affectionally known as “The Bey Hive.”

“The City of Santa Clara is excited to welcome fans and visitors to our beautiful city. As one of the most decorated artists in history, we are thrilled to have Beyoncé back here in Santa Clara as she contributes to the economic vitality of our city,” said Mayor Lisa M. Gillmor.

“Beyoncé demonstrates an incredible dedication to economic equity and championing marginalized communities through her service to communities globally. In recognition of her artistry and humanitarianism, we are proud to present Beyoncé a key to our city along with the title of honorary Mayor,” the city’s proclamation read.

The superstar’s publicist, Yvette Noel-Shure, accepted the proclamation on her behalf. “I have worked with Beyoncé now for close to 27 years. And it gives me great joy to still be recognized for her contributions to the arts and to society at large,” Noel-Shure said. “Who run the world? Girls. But also mantras to boost confidence to get the strength to get up in the morning.”

Beyoncé previously asked her fans to help her celebrate her final shows by wearing silver on the day of the show.

“Virgo season is upon us,” Beyoncé wrote on her website. “This tour has been such a joy. My birthday wish is to celebrate with you wearing your most fabulous silver fashions to the shows Aug. 23-Sept. 22!”
