Unaccompanied Teens Will Be Required To Wear ID Lanyards in California Mall Following Major Brawl

A mall in Southern California now requires unaccompanied teens to wear ID lanyards after a brawl broke out over the weekend over National Cinema Day.

The decision comes after multiple fights broke on Sunday at Moreno Valley Mall over $4 discounted movie tickets.

According to FOX Los Angeles, the mall had to be closed after security was called to help break up the fights.  It was confirmed by mall management that no weapons were involved.

“We would like to remind you that the mall security is not a babysitting service, and it is the responsibility of parents to raise their children to be respectful to others and to compose themselves accordingly when out in public,” said the Moreno Valley Mall management.

“In light of today’s events, we will be forced to go back to the drawing board with regard to unattended youth at our property.”

Following the incidents on Sunday, unaccompanied minors visiting the mall after 5 p.m. on weekdays or anytime on weekends will be obligated to wear lanyards displaying their names and parental contact details, as indicated by the Press-Enterprise.

In Torrance, a brawl erupted at the Del Amo Shopping Center that same night. Some teens were treated and cited in that incident but no arrests were made.

So far, there has been no set date for when this policy change will go into effect.
