Donald Trump has pleaded not guilty in his high-profile voter interference case in Georgia.
The disgraced former president is in for a fight against District Attorney Fani T. Willis of Fulton County. She has pledged to prosecute Trump for trying to invalidate the outcome of the 2020 presidential election despite knowing that he wasn’t the rightful victor. His acts inspired many followers to attempt to overthrow the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, 2021. Still, he has refused to accept wrongdoing. Much of his Georgia indictment is based on a recorded January 2021 phone call where Trump demanded that state election administrators “find” him 11,780 votes, which is the amount he needed to beat Biden in Georgia, VOA News explains.
Additionally, Trump will not be present at his arraignment hearing in Fulton County Superior Court on September 6th. He has been charged with 41 counts, along with 18 others who helped him conspire to snag the election from President Joe Biden. Several of Trump’s co-defendants have also pleaded not guilty.
Trump’s devoted following continues to root for him during his mounting legal issues related to the election. Since his mugshot was taken last week at the Fulton County Jail, it has appeared on a variety of merchandise, such as t-shirts and coffee mugs, with much of the proceeds going toward funding his 2024 presidential campaign. His supporters have raised millions in the days since the mugshot was released.
Though some have already petitioned to stand trial separately from the rest, Willis has asked that each defendant in the case be tried together.
