A security guard at a high school in upstate New York was shot in the head on Saturday while attempting to break up a fight.
The shooting occurred in the parking lot of Thomas R. Proctor High School in Utica after Proctor’s 60-30 victory over Binghamton HS.

As people dispersed, gunfire erupted, and one of the guards was shot in the head, causing him to collapse.
The security guard was quickly transported to a nearby hospital. Authorities say he’s in critical condition but is expected to make a full recovery “after an obviously difficult road” to get there.
The Utica Police Department identified the shooter as a 16-year-old boy through video evidence.
On Sunday, the teen surrendered to police and was charged with second-degree attempted murder, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds and more, according to authorities.
According to Utica Police Chief Mark Williams, another school law enforcement member had denied entry to the violent group at the varsity game against Binghamton High School shortly before the shooting.
