Aaron Rodgers will not be on the field for the rest of 2023 after suffering a career-threatening torn Achilles.

The New York Jet quarterback endured the painful injury during Monday’s season opener against the Buffalo Bills. An MRI confirmed an Achilles tendon tear, which could potentially end his football career. Following the Jets 22-16 victory against the Bills, coach Robert Saleh expressed his support for Rodgers.

“I hurt for Aaron and how much he’s invested in all of this,” Saleh told reporters, also confirming that Zach Wilson will serve as the team’s starter for now.

The 39-year-old’s first season with the Jets ended shortly after it began, sustaining the tear within minutes of his debut game. It brings to an end much anticipation surrounding him joining the Jets. In recent weeks, Rodgers has also expressed excitement about his new transition after spending years with the Green Bay Packers. He has settled into life in the tri-state area, purchasing a $9.5 million New Jersey home last month.

Rodgers has had several injuries throughout his profession. In May, he was diagnosed with a leg calf strain, which is considered a minor injury. Last October, he endured a thumb fracture, which did not require surgery. However, he has weathered more serious injuries, such as several concussions throughout the years, though he was always cleared after sitting out several games. Unfortunately, a tear of this magnitude could require far more rehabilitation.

As of now, Rodgers has not yet commented on his injury.
