JetBlue Airways introduces a no-fee guarantee that ensures children 13 and under can be seated alongside an accompanying adult on the same reservation.
JetBlue has implemented a system to identify bookings featuring children and adults traveling together without pre-assigned seating. The airline has pledged to provide a complimentary service to ensure that a child traveling in such cases is given a seat adjacent to at least one accompanying adult, subject to seat availability.
“We know traveling with young children can add challenges. We want to do everything we can to put parents and families at ease by providing a smooth trip each time they choose JetBlue,” Joanna Geraghty, president and chief operating officer, said.
The seating policy also applies to passengers who opt for JetBlue’s Blue Basic fare, which is the airline’s equivalent of basic economy.
“For bookings made within 24 hours of planned travel, seats may need to be assigned manually by a JetBlue airport crew member,” a press release stated.
JetBlue continues to encourage passengers to proactively select their seats during the booking process. However, it’s important to note that certain terms and conditions govern this guarantee. One such condition is that once passengers have been assigned seats alongside their children, they will not be permitted to make further seat adjustments.
JetBlue’s announcement comes several months after the Biden administration initiated an effort to eliminate “junk fees” for air travelers in the United States. The federal government introduced an online dashboard in March, which displays information about airlines that provide assurances that families can choose seats together without incurring extra charges.
