Cher is addressing her connection with her son, Elijah Blue Allman, as well as the recent kidnapping allegations.
In the previous month, a report suggested the music legend may have hired four individuals to abduct her younger son from a hotel room in New York City during what seemed to be an intervention in November 2022. This claim came to light through divorce papers filed by Elijah’s estranged wife, Marieangela King, in December of the same year, which have only recently become public.
In response to the abduction allegations, Cher says “that rumor is not true” and chooses not to elaborate further. However, she does affirm that this private family matter is connected to her son’s struggle with addiction.
“I’m not suffering from any problem that millions of people in the United States aren’t,” Cher says. “I’m a mother. This is my job — one way or another, to try to help my children. You do anything for your children. Whenever you can help them, you just do it because that’s what being a mother is. But it’s joy, even with heartache — mostly, when you think of your children, you just smile and you love them, and you try to be there for them.”
According to the court documents, King claimed that the superstar enlisted these individuals to remove Elijah from their hotel room. This alleged action was reportedly taken because they were attempting to “reconcile” their marriage, and she was concerned for her son’s safety and well-being. King says that from November 18-30, they had spent “12 days alone together” in New York, actively working on their marriage at the time of the incident. Within the documents, she also alleged that “one of the four men who took [Allman]” informed her that the Grammy winner had employed them for this task.
