Mercedes-Maybach has teamed up with Space Perspective to deliver space travelers to its spacecraft before launch.
Space Perspective is putting the finishing touches on a balloon that will travel to space with its Spaceship Neptune capsule attached. The spaceship will go roughly 100,000 feet above Earth’s surface. Amenities will include eight reclining chairs, Wi-Fi, and a lounge decked out with a full spa and bar. Oversized windows will cover much of the capsule for passengers to enjoy the space view. Space Perspective wants to bring a luxury feel to its passengers before they even board the balloon for the eight-hour excursion. That is where the Mercedes-Maybach electric vehicles will come into play, serving as the company’s designated shuttles. Customers will also be taken back to their cars in the Maybach once the trip concludes.
Space Perspective plans to complete its first trip to outer space next year using its unique vessel. Unlike other commercial space voyage companies, Space Perspective wants to provide a relaxing trip, opting for a slow ascension into the sky instead of the fast, stomach-dropping take-off commonly seen by its competitors.
With an emphasis on providing the most lavish experience, the company is even looking into adding components of the Maybach to the balloon and capsule. Jane Poynter, Co-CEO of Space Perspective, confirmed this to Robb Report, revealing that the design team has already started work on this vision.
The Cape Canaveral-based start-up is charging $125,000 per seat on the Spaceship Neptune. Will you be catching a ride in the Maybach to the balloon?
