Megan Thee Stallion Settles Years-Long Legal Battle With Ex-Label 1501 Entertainment

Megan Thee Stallion has successfully resolved her legal dispute with her former record label, 1501 Certified Entertainment.

On Thursday, 1501’s attorneys announced that both parties have “jointly come to a confidential resolution to settle their legal disputes.” The news comes just after three years of legal battles over a record contract Megan deemed “unconscionable.” As part of the agreement, both parties will “amicably part ways.”

“Both Megan and 1501 are pleased to put this matter behind them and move forward with the next chapter of their respective businesses,” the label says. Additionally, the president of the label, Carl Crawford, expressed his well wishes for Megan’s life and career.

The specific details of the agreement were not revealed. Megan had engaged in a legal battle with 1501 for over three years, stating that the company had deceived her into signing an unjust record contract in 2018. She explained that it was only when she entered a new management agreement with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation in 2019 that she obtained legal counsel that enabled her to recognize the contract’s absurdity.

In February 2022, Megan initiated her legal action, contending that 1501 was declining to classify her 2021 release, “Something for Thee Hotties,” as an “album.” This distinction was crucial because her record deal obligated her to deliver three albums. 1501 quickly filed a countersuit, asserting that the “album” consisted of only 29 minutes of original content. In August 2022, Megan filed another complaint, requesting over $1 million in damages. The filing alleges that 1501 consistently fell short in royalty payments and permitted unwarranted marketing and promotion expenses. Nevertheless, 1501 responded, characterizing the claim as lacking merit and asserting that Megan owed “millions of dollars.”
