Elon Musk has proposed a generous donation to Wikipedia but with the condition that they change their site’s name.
“I will give them a billion dollars if they change their name to Dickipedia,” wrote Musk. “Please add that to the [cow and poop emojis] on my wiki page,” he continued. “In the interests of accuracy.”
The “offer” comes after Musk’s earlier tweet criticizing the Wikimedia Foundation for its financial demands.
“It certainly isn’t needed to operate Wikipedia. You can literally fit a copy of the entire text on your phone!” tweeted Musk. “So, what’s the money for? Inquiring minds want to know … “
In response, The Community Notes clarified that the Wikimedia Foundation handles massive web traffic, necessitating substantial operating costs. They also employ third-party financial auditors, and their reports are public.
According to Business Insider, this is not the first clash between Musk and Wikipedia. In May, Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales criticized Musk for limiting content on X before Turkey’s presidential election.
