The Challenge star Nelson Thomas was arrested for driving while intoxicated following his near-fatal car crash in March.
According to TMZ, the incident occurred when he lost control of his Audi A4, leading to a collision with a bridge in Austin, Texas, causing the vehicle to catch fire while he was trapped inside.
In court documents obtained by Page Six, a police officer said that Thomas had “bloodshot, glassy eyes” and admitted to drinking “2–3 mixed alcoholic drinks” before the accident.
Once he arrived at Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas, an officer claimed to have “detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath.”
The officer then arrested Thomas after failing a field sobriety test.
The reality star was initially released from custody due to his prolonged medical treatment. Later, police obtained a warrant for his medical records, revealing a blood alcohol content of 0.178%, more than double the legal limit of 0.08%.
On September 28, Nelson Thomas was re-arrested and smiled for his mugshot. He posted a $5,000 bond afterward.
Thomas’ attorney, Angela Tabares, previously noted in court documents that her client has been “dealing with a serious medical condition in which he does not have full mobility of one of his legs.”
He is expected in court on November 16.
