It’s been more than thirty years since Shannon Sharpe arrived back on campus at Savannah State.
Monday’s episode of First Take is part of a two-college tour, including a visit to Stephen A’s alma mater at Winston-Salem State University and Sharpe’s own university on Monday.
Overwhelmed by emotions, Sharpe ran through the crowd during his visit Monday while dancing and cheering, creating a heartwarming and memorable moment.
Having this being the first time in decades he’s been back, host Molly Qerim asked what it meant to him to finally have this moment.
“It’s really hard to put in words, if I had a thousand tongues I couldn’t thank you enough,” Sharpe said to the crowd.
Sharpe expressed his gratitude to ESPN and, most importantly, Stephen A. Smith for bringing him onto the show and fulfilling his promise to bring him back to Savannah State University.
“This another HBCU that believed in me, this man sitting right here next to me. Stephen A. Smith. “This man believed in me, gave me an opportunity when a lot of people wrote me off… but he called me and said big boy, you not done yet. I got big plans for you.”
