Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been accused of rape and years of repeated physical abuse by his ex-girlfriend and R&B singer Cassie in a new federal lawsuit.
Cassie, real name Casandra Ventura, filed the suit Thursday in Federal District Court in Manhattan, the New York Times reports. The Bad Boy founder faces disturbing allegations of a controlling and abusive pattern, purportedly commencing shortly after their initial meeting in 2005 when she was 19.
The accusations encompass a range of egregious behaviors, including subjecting Cassie to drug use, physical abuse, and coercing her into engaging in sexual acts with multiple male prostitutes, which he allegedly recorded. The lawsuit further claims that early in their relationship, the music mogul took control of every aspect of her life, from career decisions to financial matters, including providing housing and clothing and accessing her personal medical records.
According to the suit, Diddy allegedly supplied her with various drugs, including “copious amounts of drugs” such as ecstasy and ketamine, and encouraged her to consume them. It also alleges frequent acts of violence, with Cassie stating that she refrained from reporting the incidents to the police out of fear that it would give Combs another reason to harm her.
In another claim, Cassie implied that Diddy was involved in an incident in early 2012 where Kid Cudi’s car was blown up after he discovered they dated.
“After years in silence and darkness,” Ms. Ventura said in a statement, “I am finally ready to tell my story, and to speak up on behalf of myself and for the benefit of other women who face violence and abuse in their relationships.”
She is seeking unspecified damages in the suit.
Ben Brafman, an attorney representing Combs responded to the lawsuit saying, “Mr. Combs vehemently denies these offensive and outrageous allegations. For the past six months, Mr. Combs has been subjected to Ms. Ventura’s persistent demand of $30 million, under the threat of writing a damaging book about their relationship, which was unequivocally rejected as blatant blackmail. Despite withdrawing her initial threat, Ms. Ventura has now resorted to filing a lawsuit riddled with baseless and outrageous lies, aiming to tarnish Mr. Combs’s reputation and seeking a payday.”
A lawyer representing Cassie claims Diddy and his team were aware of her plans to file the suit.
“Mr. Combs offered Ms. Ventura eight figures to silence her and prevent the filing of this lawsuit,” he said. “She rejected his efforts.”
Cassi’s suit also accuses the 54-year-old of sex trafficking, sexual battery, sexual harassment and gender discrimination and other claims.
“With the expiration of New York’s Adult Survivors Act fast approaching, it became clear that this was an opportunity to speak up about the trauma I have experienced and that I will be recovering from for the rest of my life,” said Cassie.
