Josh Giddey has found himself in one of the more uncomfortable NBA scandals to date. Images surfaced over the holiday week, depicting Giddey in the company of a minor, sparking allegations of an inappropriate relationship. These pictures and videos rapidly circulated on social media.
On Friday afternoon, as the OKC team engaged in their shoot-around ahead of their home game against the Philadelphia 76ers, media availability commenced shortly after. Giddey was present and faced questions regarding the ‘serious allegations’ circulating around him. When pressed about the allegations, Giddey responded, “Yeah, I understand the question obviously, but no further comment right now.”
Coach Mark Daigneault was also questioned about the allegations involving the player to which he responded, “Personal matter, and I have no comment on it,” Daigneault said. “And that will be my answer on anything related.”
An anonymous source originally posted all the information. Later deleted, of course, it was too late. The 21-year-old is a key piece to an Oklahoma City Thunder team that has started the season 11-4 and is sitting second in the Western Conference standings currently.
As reported by sports reporter Shams Charania, the NBA is aware of the allegations and is conducting an internal investigation.
