The holiday season, known as one of the most beautiful times of the year, is officially upon us! As we step into December, we want to spread some holiday joy by sharing festive and classic Christmas songs that will help put you all in a jolly spirit and celebrate all season long. From the 70s to the modern day, from pop to hip hop, you’ll be sure to have a variety of Christmas songs to get you through the last-minute gift wrapping, cooking the big Christmas supper, or even getting ready for your Christmas photoshoot to send out with your Christmas cards. While there are so many beloved Christmas records, we wanted to share some of our favorites. Get ready because it’s beginning to sound a lot like Christmas!

If you have a very special someone to celebrate Christmas with, this song is certainly for you. Generating both pop and R&B sound, this song was featured on Justin’s first-ever Christmas album back in 2011. According to Billboard, the single set the record for the highest debut for a Christmas song in the Hot 100 history.

Mary J Blige – Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

The queen of hip-hop soul gives us nostalgia with this Christmas gem. According to ESSENCE, she informed them that she didn’t want to restructure the song but simply sing the classic the way people love it. Mary, you certainly put us in the traditional holiday spirit with this one!

Chris Brown – This Christmas

Back in 2007, Chris Brown released his cosmic version of Donny Hathway’s ‘This Christmas.’ The rendition appeared on the soundtrack for the holiday film This Christmas, in which Chris starred alongside Idris Elba, Loretta Devine, and Regina King. The single remains a classic every year and was even certified platinum back in 2021.

Boyz II Men – Let It Snow

The harmonious R&B group released this soulful Christmas single for those who are spending the holidays in love. The single included a guest appearance from R&B sensation Brian McKnight, who delivered smooth and effortless vocals. If you’re in need to set the mood for the holidays, this song is the perfect go-to!

DJ Khaled, Yo Gotti, Fabolous – 3 Kings

If you’re into more of a hip-hop sound for the holidays, Yo Gotti, Fab and DJ Khaled are definitely the trio for you. This metaphoric single appeared on Roc Nation’s Christmas album back in 2017, giving fans a holiday twist honoring the streets.

Destiny’s Child – 8 Days of Christmas

American girl group Destiny’s Child delivered this sexy and fun Christmas single with an R&B and pop twist to the original carol of ‘Twelve Days of Christmas.’ The song expresses being in love and being showered with gifts, something light and cheerful for the girlies!

Summer Walker – Santa Baby

With Summer’s melodic voice, this was the perfect rendition, giving us that traditional nostalgic Christmas feel. The single made its debut on LVRN’s Home For The Holidays 2 compilation album. Delivering the song in a flirtatious tone, Summer expresses her excitement and playful desire to receive gifts during the holiday season. If you’re feeling a little sensual, this could be the perfect record for your playlist.

Jackson 5 – Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

Jackson 5’s rendition of this classic record has become iconic and beloved by many since its release back in the 1970s. The song delivers a cheerful and upbeat tempo that is guaranteed to put you and your loved ones in the holiday spirit. 

TLC – Sleigh Ride

Last but not least, one of our favorite 90s girl groups, TLC, helps us to bring in both Christmas and the New Year with ‘Sleigh Ride.’ This groovy, fun and nostalgic record truly makes the holidays sound exciting and refreshing. The music video even featured the trio honoring traditions such as sitting by the Christmas tree with presents, wearing matching PJs, dancing with friends, mistletoe and all in all just having a good time as that’s what Christmas should represent.
