Emmy Award-winning actor Andre Braugher has passed away at the age of 61.
His publicist confirmed he died from a brief illness on Monday, but further details were not available. The news of his passing was revealed on Tuesday.
Braugher was known for roles like Raymond Holt in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and Frank Pembleton in “Homicide: Life on the Street.” His notable work includes the film “Glory” (1989), depicting the first all-Black army regiment. Braugher was also set to star in the upcoming Netflix show, “The Residence.”
“Andre Braugher was the actor that others in the profession would always aspire to be,” NBC Entertainment said late Tuesday. “In addition to his prowess as a dramatic actor, his comedy chops were also on full display as the determined and passionate Capt. Holt in ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine.’ We will miss him tremendously.”
Braugher achieved recognition with 11 Primetime Emmy nominations throughout his career, securing victories in two categories. Additionally, he received two Television Critics Association Awards.
Born and raised in Chicago, Andre received a bachelor’s from Stanford University and continued his studies at Juilliard School. He married actress Ami Brabson in 1991, and they have three children.
