It is no surprise that after Cam Newton‘s NFL career, the charismatic and witty Heisman trophy winner found himself in front of cameras. He has multiple shows on his YouTube platform, including the Funky Friday Podcast, which recently featured Charleston White and Chrisean Rock. He also plans to bring back his 7-on-7 football team’s docu-series and has his own podcast, 4th & 1 with Cam Newton.
On a recent episode of the 4th & 1 podcast, Cam Newton’s controversial comments have finally caught the airwaves of social media and created a frenzy. He spoke about MVP candidates this season after previously advocating for his former teammate in Carolina, running back Christian McCaffery. It is notably challenging for a player who is not in the quarterback position to win MVP due to the magnitude of responsibility that the team’s success oftentimes relies on that player’s ability. The 2015 MVP Newton understands his most recent comment may say otherwise about where his opinion may lie.
When he was asked on his podcast what Quarterbacks should be MVP candidates, he ran off a list of players he deemed worthy and some not so worthy.
“Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Dak Prescott, Brock Purdy like. But Brock they’re not winning because of him. He’s managing the game,” Newton said. “If we were able to put that in its own right as game managers, Brock Purdy, Tua Tagovailoa, Jared Goff, and really Dak Prescott. These are game managers, they’re not difference makers. If we’re going to call a spade a spade, a game manager is different than a game changer.”
This did not fly with ESPN’s Get Up analyst Domonique Foxworth, who has been an advocate in praising Dak for his impressive jump this season. He had a hilarious soliloquy for Newton.
“I would say it’s called Funky Friday, that’s his podcast. He wants you to download, rate, and review. He said some wild things so he could be GetUp so please do that man a favor, because that’s absurd. When he said Dak’s name, I said ‘he’s telling jokes’,” Foxworth said this morning Vehemently disagree with Newton and his take.
