Actor Andre Braugher’s Cause Of Death Confirmed As Lung Cancer

The cause of death for beloved actor Andre Braugher has been revealed.

According to his publicist, Jennifer Allen, the Emmy-winning actor passed away after a short battle with lung cancer. When news first broke of his death on Monday, it was only reported that he passed away from a “brief illness.” Braugher was diagnosed with cancer only a few months prior to his death and chose to keep it private from the public. The actor had previously revealed in 2014 that he no longer drank or smoked.

Born on July 1, 1962, Braugher gained widespread recognition for his breakthrough role as Detective Frank Pembleton in the NBC drama series “Homicide: Life on the Street,” which earned him critical acclaim and his first Primetime Emmy Award in 1996. In the years that followed, Braugher continued to make significant contributions to television, taking on diverse roles in series such as “Gideon’s Crossing” and “Men of a Certain Age.” However, one of his most iconic roles came later in his career when he portrayed Captain Ray Holt in the popular police procedural comedy series “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” Braugher landed his second Primetime Emmy Award for his work in the FX miniseries “Thief” in 2006. One of his last projects was “The Good Fight,” which was streamed on Paramount+.

Braugher leaves behind wife, actress Ami Brabson, whom he married in 1991. The couple share three sons, Michael, Isaiah, and John.
