Celine Dion’s sister has revealed that the singer has lost control of her muscles since announcing her struggles with Stiff-Person Syndrome.
Claudette Dion told 7 Jours that her sister “works hard” to combat the disease but expressed uncertainty about the future of her singing career, stating, “In our dreams and in hers, the idea is to return to the stage. In what state? I do not know.”
In December 2022, the singer announced in a video message that she had the disease and, unfortunately, had to cancel her 2023 tour dates.
“I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time, and it’s been really difficult for me to face these challenges … Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to.”
She said, “I’m working really hard to build back my strength, but touring can be very difficult even when you’re 100% … I want you all to know, I’m not giving up.”
According to reports, Stiff-Person Syndrome is a rare, incurable but treatable condition impacting the spinal column and brain. It leads to muscle overstimulation, triggering spasms.
