Ciara Learns She & Derek Jeter Are Cousins: “This Was A Dream Come True”

Ciara and baseball legend Derek Jeter are newly-found cousins. 

The “One, Two Step” star appeared on a recent episode of the PBS series Finding Your Roots, which helps celebrities discover their familial history using DNA research and genealogical investigation. During the probe into her heritage, Ciara learned that she is linked to the New York Yankees star. 

“Yeah, that is your DNA cousin,” host Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. told Cici about Jeter. 

During the amazing revelation, it was explained that “Ciara and Derek share a long identical stretch of DNA on their 14th chromosome DNA, which we know Derek inherited from his mother.”

Ciara shared a clip of the touching moment on her Instagram, clearly still very much excited to learn she is related to him. “The moment I learned @DerekJeter was my cousin! Crazy! Thank you @drhenrylouisgates, for such an incredible experience! This was a dream come true to learn about my family genealogy!”

Finding Your Roots has left many celebs shaken up with its disclosures about their family history. Actor Edward Norton was shocked to learn his ancestors were slave owners. True Blood actor Joe Manganiello discovered that he was part Black on the show. Comedian Larry David even found out that he and Bernie Sanders are distant cousins on the series. 

Jeter hasn’t publicly commented on his new family member, though hopefully, he and Cici will have a reunion of sorts very soon.
