Shia LaBeouf recently joined the Catholic Church and is considering becoming a deacon.

On Tuesday, the Capuchin Franciscans – Western America Province announced that the actor achieved full entry into the Catholic Church over the weekend.

“The Capuchin Franciscan friars are overjoyed to welcome him into the fold and witness his deep commitment to his faith journey,” the group wrote on social media. “Shia LaBeouf, known for his incredible talent and passion in the entertainment industry, has embarked on a profound spiritual journey that has led him to embrace the teachings of the Catholic Church. His decision to fully enter the Church is a testament to his sincere desire to grow in his relationship with God and live out the Gospel values.”

According to the Catholic News Agency, LaBeouf’s confirmation occurred on Sunday at the Old Mission Santa Inés Parish. Brother Alexander Rodriguez, a Capuchin friar, confirmed as LaBeouf’s sponsor, shared that LaBeouf intends to become a deacon in the future.

“He just spontaneously said, ‘I want to become a deacon,’ and he still feels that way,” Rodriguez said.

Additionally, Brother Rodriguez disclosed to CNA that LaBeouf’s desire to become a deacon stemmed from his participation in the 2022 film “Padre Pio,” in which he portrayed the 20th-century Italian priest Francesco Forgione. In an August 2022 interview, LaBeouf openly discussed his increasing interest in Catholicism. During the conversation, he credited Friar Rodriguez and several other members of the California church for guiding him toward an appreciation of the church’s teachings.
