A mother was rightfully arrested after she left her two small children home alone. But it’s the way she got caught that’s interesting.
Miami Dade police say Demetria Antwonette Spencer, 25, was arrested after her six-year-old son called them Wednesday night around 9 pm to tell them his mother left him and his 2-year-old brother home alone.
After getting the call, authorities went to the apartment located on 84th Street near Miami Shores and found the small children home alone.
Officers said the home had no power or food and described the home as being very dirty, as well as the children, the Local 10 News reported.
Authorities say it took hours to locate the mother. Police said they tried to get in contact with her using a phone number that the 6-year-old boy gave them, but she did not answer.
An investigator retrieved the children from the home. But Florida DCF officials did not arrive at the home until 1:30 a.m. on Thursday.
During that time the mother still had not shown up. The following day, officers were finally able to locate the mother around 2:20 p.m. and arrested her. She was charged with two counts of child neglect with no great bodily harm.
As of late Friday morning (January 5), Spencer remained in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $5,000 bond.
