Ohio Mother Arrested For Faking Daughter's Cancer To Get Donations

Pamela Reed

An Ohio mother was arrested for fraudulently collecting thousands of dollars by falsely claiming her young daughter was battling cancer.

Pamela Reed is accused of deceiving her friends and family over an extended period regarding the well-being of her 7-year-old daughter. She allegedly portrayed the child online as visually impaired and chronically ill. Reed also fabricated various medical conditions, such as acute myeloid leukemia and frequent seizures. Authorities claim Reed even confessed to shaving her daughter’s head as part of the scheme.

The Noble County Sheriff’s Office stated that community members actively engaged in fundraising initiatives. Additionally, providing monetary contributions to assist the family in alleviating medical expenses.

The twisted scheme unraveled last week when an elementary school nurse uncovered that the young girl was not visually impaired in her right eye. According to the documents, Reed had informed the nurse earlier that her daughter would eventually undergo the implantation of a port for cancer treatments. This revelation came following claims that the girl had already missed over 280 hours of school in the 2023-2024 academic year due to her purported health issues.
Subsequently, Reed admitted to fabricating documents and manipulating prescriptions to create the illusion of cancer treatment for her daughter. She also confessed to administering unnecessary seizure medication to AR. When initially questioned by the police, Reed attempted to deceive them. But, Reed eventually confessed that she had perpetuated the deception because she appreciated the support she received as a result.

Since October 2017, Reed has consistently posted updates about AR’s fictitious health journeys on a dedicated page. Initially, Reed asserted that AR was afflicted with Severe Aplastic Anemia. However, it remains uncertain if this illness was also part of the fabrication. Reed shared multiple links to online fundraisers over the years that reportedly generated substantial funds.
