New year, New beginnings.
As the year kicks off, many of us create New Year’s resolutions, but for some, it may be a challenge to keep up and follow through with them. It’s easy to fall back into old patterns that we’re used to. It takes time for us to break habits, adapt, and change. Experts state that it takes about 21 days to form a new habit and approximately six months for it to become a part of who you are. Everyone is always looking for ways to better themselves, and we want to help make sure you take the proper steps to achieve them in 2024.
Dream Big, Start Small – Dream big goals for yourself, but break them into small steps. Most people who focus on the ultimate goal tend to get discouraged quickly because they haven’t reached it in their desired timeframe. Creating measurable goals to achieve your big dream helps to build confidence and allows you to feel more accomplished.
Be Specific – When setting goals, don’t make them broad. For example, don’t write down that you just want to lose weight; be specific on how many pounds you want to lose, whether it’s 10 or 20 pounds, and set when specifically you’d want to lose it.
Set New Goals – If you’ve made resolutions in the past and failed to follow through with them, don’t set the same goal because it’s an easy way to set yourself up for failure. Set new and realistic goals that you feel would be more achievable.
Surround Yourself With Support – When setting new goals for yourself, it’s more fun and exciting to keep up with them while doing it with others. Having a support group also helps to hold you accountable if you slip up. For example, if your goal is to workout 2-3 times a week, you can have yourself a workout partner.
Remain Patient – Remember everything is a process, and nothing happens overnight. Progress looks different for everyone, and the journey towards it is never linear. Be patient with yourself, and remember you’re running a marathon, not a sprint towards your destination.
Keep Track Of Your Progress – Evaluating and updating your progress is a confident step to making sure you stay true to your resolutions. If you’re looking to lose a certain amount of pounds, keep track of what you eat on a daily basis with apps such as MyFitnessPal. Another example is if you’re looking to build up your business, you can keep a planner to write down and check off your daily responsibilities with companies such as Outlined.
Don’t Give Up – It’s easy to get discouraged when you haven’t reached your ultimate goal or you don’t see much physical progress. Consistency is key. Never give up.
