Social media food influencer Keith Lee had to end his Bay Area food tour prematurely after a disturbing chain of events.
For the past several months, the TikToker and his relatives have been going city to city reviewing restaurants, many of which are small and struggling to get customers. His tours have brought numerous eateries waves of business. However, as he explained in a TikTok, his visit to the Bay Area was much less productive. According to Lee, the socioeconomic state of the region does not make it “a place for tourists right now.” He shared that he and his family witnessed a shocking number of people living in tents and cars, making it challenging to justify joyfully doing food reviews.

Also, Lee shared that the food he and his family received was underwhelming. In one case, he even suffered an allergic reaction to the food, which resulted in a brief hospitalization while in the area. Lee, who is severely allergic to shellfish, was told that a grill at one eatery would be cleaned before his meal was prepared to avoid contact with the previous shellfish cooked on the grill. Unfortunately, this didn’t happen, leaving him with a terrifying medical emergency.
The popular content creator, who has attracted millions of fans, shared that most of the food he was able to get was not good in general. For this reason, he refrained from sharing the videos he did make, not wanting to speak poorly about the businesses.
“I’ve always been big on honesty, I’ve always been big on transparency, but I’ve never been big on completely tearing down anybody, and I feel like those videos are doing that,” Lee explained.
In closing, Lee thanked those who made his experience enjoyable, even if it was cut short.
“The people of the Bay were absolutely amazing. And I’ll never forget the hospitality and the love that y’all showed me,” he said.
It’s unclear when and if there will be another stop after the disastrous Bay Area stop.
