Kid Cudi faced accusations of being “satanic” when he revealed two large statues of himself as part of the promotional campaign for his latest album.
The silver statues, showcased in Paris and on a boat in Long Beach, California, stood at approximately 30 feet tall. They depicted the rapper with outstretched arms, and lights emanated from his hollow eye sockets and mouth. Criticism arose from several fans who condemned Cudi, alleging that the display had demonic undertones.
“Sad sad cudi sold his soul and had to wear a dress to become relevant again,” one user said on social media.
The release of Cudi’s new album comes over a year after he disclosed that he was approaching the conclusion of his rap career.
“I just don’t know if I wanna do music, drop albums for too much longer, you know? I’m kind of nearing the end on all things Kid Cudi, I think,” he revealed in October 2022.
During that period, he expressed a strong curiosity about exploring other realms beyond music.
“I was thinking about this — and this is like a wacky idea I had years ago. But it would be cool to, like, one day be a kindergarten teacher. And just do that for a couple years,” Cudi explained. “Like, when I’m, like, 50… And I just, like, infect the youth with that freshness. Get ’em young, and then those kids will just sprinkle the freshness to the world, and I’ll just be like, ‘Yes! Yes!’”
