Supreme Court Rejects R. Kelly's Last-Ditch Appeal in Federal Sex Crimes Case

R. Kelly denies responsibility for a lawsuit judgment, claiming he was unaware of the case filed by women who accused him of victimization.

Last year, six women were awarded $10.5 million for a lawsuit accusing R. Kelly and his ex-manager, Donnell Russell, of orchestrating a mass shooting threat to stop a NYC screening of the ‘Surviving R. Kelly‘ docu-series in December 2018.

In legal documents, the disgraced singer claimed he would have defended himself against the lawsuit if he had known about it.

According to TMZ, Kelly is reportedly struggling to keep up with the various legal challenges amid his numerous criminal cases and prosecutions while incarcerated in North Carolina.

Since being incarcerated,  R. Kelly claims he has changed legal teams and suggests that the lawsuit might have been overlooked or not properly delivered to him.

Additionally, he said it’s challenging for him to grasp or distinguish legal documents, so he relies on his lawyers to explain things to him because “I cannot read or understand words beyond that of a grade schooler.”

Furthermore, Kelly refutes the lawsuit’s claim that Donnell was his manager. He also states that he was unaware of Russell’s efforts to impede the ‘Surviving’ screening, stating, “he did that for his own reasons.”

The distribution of the $10.5 million judgment to the women is uncertain, with Kelly strongly denying any responsibility.
