A massive data breach, among the largest ever, has raised fears of widespread cybercrime as billions of accounts worldwide are at risk.
According to experts, the massive “Mother of All Breaches” exposed 26 billion records, from prominent platforms like LinkedIn, Snapchat, Venmo, Adobe, and X (formerly Twitter), establishing itself as the most significant leak in history.
Experts reveal that the compromised data goes beyond login credentials, containing a significant amount of “sensitive” information deemed valuable for malicious actors, as reported by Cybernews.
“The dataset is extremely dangerous as threat actors could leverage the aggregated data for a wide range of attacks, including identity theft, sophisticated phishing schemes, targeted cyberattacks, and unauthorized access to personal and sensitive accounts,” said cybersecurity expert Bob Dyachenko and the team at Cybernews.
Cybernews’ head of security research Mantas Sasnauskas told the Daily Mail that “probably the majority of the population have been affected.”
Despite the concerning scale of the 12 terabytes of data, identified as a meticulous compilation of many breaches (COMB), the data brings hope as it doesn’t contain anything “newly stolen.”
Cybernews said it “discovered billions upon billions of exposed records on an open instance.”
The Chinese instant messaging platform Tencent suffered the most significant data exposure, with 1.4 billion records compromised.
Weibo had 504 million records leaked, followed by MySpace with 360 million, Twitter with 281 million, Deezer with 258 million, and LinkedIn with 251 million.
Other major platforms impacted include Adobe, Telegram, Dropbox, Doordash, Canva and Snapchat, as well as various government organizations around the world, including those in the US.
The owner of the threat is probably unidentifiable, but the team speculates they might be a data broker, cybercriminal, or someone with extensive data access.

The impact of the leak’s scale is likely “unprecedented,”with the vast amount of compromised data overshadowing past breaches.
