DJ Mustard is pursuing sole legal custody of his eldest son with his estranged wife, Chanel.
According to court documents obtained by RadarOnline.com, Mustard requested a modification to the existing custody arrangement.
Currently, the former couple share joint legal custody of their three children. However, Mustard contended in his motion that he should be granted sole authority over his 11-year-old son’s education.
Mustard has objected to his son attending a low-rated public school and suggested an alternative, with eventual plans to move him to a private school.
He told the court that he consulted with educational professionals who advised that his child should improve his grades before considering a transition to a private school.
According to Mustard, Chanel has defensively refused to entertain the advice.
He is accusing Chanel of not co-parenting with him on the matter, stating that she is “treating” their son’s education as “a contest that she must win at all costs, even if that cost is irreparable educational harm” to their child.
His lawyer wrote, “Since [Mustard] began searching for a private school in October of 2023, Chanel has been reflexively oppositional to any and all information or advice coming from the professionals advising him.”
In his motion, Mustard requested the court to grant him sole legal custody of the teen, allowing him to make education decisions without Chanel’s involvement.
It was previously reported that Chanel requested $80,000 in child support, but Mustard agreed to provide $24,000 per month in support.
