The Los Angeles Lakers have announced that they will unveil a statue of Kobe Bryant on Thursday at 6 p.m., just before the team’s game against the reigning champions, Denver Nuggets. This will be the seventh statue to be erected for the Lakers, joining the likes of Shaquille O’Neal, Jerry West, and Elgin Baylor. Fans can watch a live stream of the event on Spectrum SportsNet.
The Lakers will be wearing their ‘Mamba Mentality’ jerseys for the first time since the 2020 NBA playoff run. The jerseys were introduced during the 2017-18 season as the team’s first City Edition uniform. It was created to honor the 20-year career that represents loyalty, grit, and the passion that the NBA Hall of Famer possessed during his career with the Lakers.
The jersey numbers feature a black print that resembles snakeskin and drop shadows. Additionally, each leg of the shorts has a flap with the numbers 8 and 24. Fans are curious to know if the statue will also pay tribute to Bryant’s daughter GiGi in any way.
