During the Super Bowl media night on Monday, it was inevitable that someone would ask Patrick Mahomes about his father’s recent arrest. Mahomes Sr. was busted over the weekend for driving while intoxicated after being stopped by police, according to an affidavit obtained by The NY Post from the Smith County Sheriff’s Office in Texas.
This made elder Mahomes’ third DWI. According to the AP, he was sentenced to 40 days in jail in 2019 for his second offense, which he served on weekends.
When asked about the matter, Mahomes Jr. kept it simple and stated that his father was “doing well.”
He continued, “It’s a family matter, so I’ll keep it to the family. That’s all I have to say.”
According to the police report filed by the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, Patrick Mahomes Sr failed three tests during the in-person assessment, including eye-tracking, walking in a straight line, and turning.
“I believed Patrick was impaired to a perceptible degreased while operating a motor vehicle in a public place,” the arresting officer said in his statement.
The former MLB pitcher was released on a $10,000 bail, and now he will await his court date. Earlier this week, Judge James Meredith handled Mahomes’ case in told TMZ Sports that Mahomes Sr. will still be able to travel to Vegas his son’s Super Bowl game.
