Keith Lee is warning restaurants about scammers trying to use his name in a get-rich-quick scheme.
The famous TikToker was forced to make a video addressing a string of incidents involving people promising restaurant owners a visit from Lee in exchange for a fee. This scam began when his plans to attend Indianapolis for NBA All-Star Weekend had been leaked, prompting scammers to reach out to businesses looking to cash in.
“Apparently, food influencers that live in Indianapolis are going around to restaurants and charging these restaurants a fee and guaranteeing them that we’re coming and we gon’ try the food and there’s gon be a line out the door. That’s not true. We going to Indianapolis for the game and the game only,” Lee stated in the video.
Lee has continuously stated he would never charge any restaurant to try their food. He has also indicated that he wishes to be treated like a normal person. For this reason, he frequently sends his family to eateries to pick up the food he wishes to try.
In recent weeks, Lee’s good deeds have been tainted by scandal. Weeks ago, he tipped a business owner $4,000 to be split between the staff. However, the restaurant boss kept the money for herself, which sparked a wave of backlash. Lee was forced to address this issue as well after many employees slammed the business owner for keeping the money.
As for this new drama, no restaurant owners have yet to come forward about being scammed. Hopefully, Lee calling out the scam will make fraudsters think twice.
