Wendy Williams’ family has disclosed that she is currently receiving assistance for her health issues, which include recent diagnoses of aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. This update comes in conjunction with the release of her Lifetime documentary titled “Where Is Wendy Williams?” The documentary, scheduled for broadcast on Saturday, February 24, explores Wendy’s tumultuous journey throughout 2022 and 2023. It sheds light on the series of events following the end of her talk show, which was attributed to her unpredictable behavior and health complications.
The upcoming film will depict Wendy navigating her recovery under the care of a court-appointed legal guardian. It will address her struggles with alcohol addiction, mental health challenges, memory loss, and communication difficulties.
Wendy’s sister, Wanda Finnie, and niece, Alex Finnie, have shared that despite the adversities illustrated in the documentary, Wendy is currently in a more stable place, both physically and mentally. “I spoke with her yesterday, and I speak with her very regularly when she reaches out to me. She is, from what I understand, in a wellness and healing type of environment,” Wanda stated. “We cannot reach out to her, but she can reach out to us. And she is in a healing place emotionally. She’s not the person that you see in this film.”
Her niece further expressed to PEOPLE magazine, “I’m proud of my aunt for taking control of her narrative. Being such a public figure and an open book, we’ve witnessed the struggles she’s faced over the last few months and years, which seemed like a downward spiral for my aunt. So, for her to put her voice into this and take ownership of her story and where she is today, I think it’s powerful.”
While her family remains unaware of the specific treatments Wendy is undergoing at the facility, they observe that she appears to be in much better spirits.
However, on early Thursday, Wendy’s medical team announced her diagnosis with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. A press release confirmed that “after undergoing a comprehensive series of medical tests,” Williams was diagnosed with both conditions in 2023. Aphasia, a disorder that affects speech and comprehension of language, along with frontotemporal dementia, a condition that impairs cognitive function and behavior, have significantly impacted Wendy Williams’ life. Her team has acknowledged these challenges amidst ongoing speculation about her health.
