When the Denver Broncos released Russell Wilson, everyone knew he would find a new home. A Dark Horse emerged from the pack in the form of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Sunday on X, Russell Wilson formally announced that he would be signing with the historical team on the East Coast.

This partnership makes sense, as Wilson and the Steelers find themselves in unlikely scenarios that both sides have not faced. Wilson will still be paid his $38 million through Denver, so the team taking on Wilson’s contract wouldn’t have to concede but so much.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been in need of a franchise-altering quarterback since the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger a few years ago. Although they pivoted to the in-state talent, Pitt graduate Kenny Pickett, his performance has been what some call lackluster in his Steelers career.
Teams that have surpassed expectations, despite the absence of an elite quarterback, often fail to advance past the first round of the playoffs. Wilson’s presence on the team provides valuable postseason experience, something that the Black and Gold fanbase has been requesting.
Shannon Sharpe and Stephen A Smith talked about the impact of this singing on First Take this morning. Sharpe was adamant that if someone is released and nobody wants him, that should tell you something.
“He’s on the market, Sharpe told Smith. No matter how fine a chick is, no matter how many Birkin bags or Chanel purses she has, if she’s on the market, what does that tell you?
“That tells me that somebody didn’t want her, Smith responded. That doesn’t mean I shouldn’t! Is he(Wilson) a significant upgrade to what the Steelers had last year? yes or no?
“Bologna is an upgrade over potted meat. I don’t want either of them though,” Sharpe said in response. Check out the video below.
Wilson and Head Coach Mike Tomlin will have high expectations, and both will face a lot of pressure to succeed. The supporting cast will be essential to their success, so hopefully, free agency will continue to be as kind as it has been.
