The 55th Annual NAACP Awards, held at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall on March 16, 2024, in Los Angeles, California, was a night to remember, celebrating achievements and excellence in the African American community.
The event brought together a constellation of stars from film, television, music, and literature, showcasing the incredible talent within the community and the impactful contributions to society and culture. Notable moments from the evening included powerful speeches that touched on themes of representation, equality, and the ongoing fight for justice, reflecting the NAACP’s mission to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination.
The red carpet was a dazzling display of fashion, with celebrities donning a variety of looks that ranged from elegant and classic to bold and avant-garde.
Among the attendees, Fantasia Barrino was a standout, capturing attention with her choice of outfit and presence, embodying the spirit of celebration and empowerment that the NAACP Awards represent.
Let’s check out some of our favorite looks in no particular order.
Fantasia looked absolutely amazing and has been working the red carpet. The songstress/actress donned the red carpet in a custom Mônot gown that featured a plunging neckline, sequinned gloves, and a large bow on the back. The look was paired with Le Silla heels, Judith Leiber bag, and Messika for the accessories. The red carpet look was styled by Daniel Hawkins (@1800dhawk).
Taraji P. Henson wore a soft yellow Delcore gown that gave nothing but class and elegance. The look featured an oversized flower-like detail. Everything about this look was gorgeous and soft. I love that she did not overdo it with accessories, making it look more elegant.
DomiNque Perry, who is notably known for her role on Insecure, looked stunning in her purple look. The dress featured a long train on one side and a puffy sleeve paired with black strapped heels.
Sheryl Lee Ralph looked stunning on the carpet, and I loved her chosen color for the evening. Ralph wore a Georges Hobeika gown that featured sheer detailing and crystal details through the midsection of the dress. Very elegant. Ivy Coco Maurice styled the actress.
Halle Bailey looked very elegant in her green strapless gown. Although I love the look, I feel this trend for her has become the norm and I would love to see her in a different style other than the mermaid fitting. Bailey looks great, and the color was a great choice, especially with the accessories kept to a minimum.
Everyone looked amazing for the event. Winners of the night spanned a wide array of categories, with accolades recognizing outstanding work in film, television, music, and more, highlighting the diversity of talent and the depth of contributions made by African Americans across different media. The 55th Annual NAACP Awards not only celebrated the year’s achievements but also served as a reminder of the ongoing work and advocacy needed to foster equality and justice, echoing the enduring relevance of the NAACP’s mission in today’s society.
