Authorities have reported at least 270 arrests in Miami Beach this month during spring break.
Between March 1 and March 17, authorities have recorded a total of 274 arrests citywide, encompassing a range of charges.
The announcement follows the city’s “Spring Break Breakup” campaign launched ahead of spring break, aimed at curbing crime in the area.
According to reports, beach and party-goers were warned about curfews, bag checks, limited beach access, DUI checkpoints, $100 parking fees, and heightened police presence to tackle drug possession and violence.
Christopher Bess, the department’s public information officer, emphasized that ensuring public safety is the primary concern for both guests and residents.
He attributed the arrests to a combination of regulations and the presence of officers.
“We had more law enforcement resources deployed out in the field in any previous years before,” Bess said, adding that the community was also helpful. “We honestly believe that we are creating a more comfortable environment for everyone, including the visitors.”
Bess noted that spring break will persist for the remainder of March, implying more arrests are probable in the coming two weeks.
Last year, nearly 500 arrests were made during spring break.
